Plot

August 1944 marks a dramatic chapter in Australian history as 1,104 Japanese prisoners of war at Cowra execute a daring escape from their POW camp. The breakout results in the tragic deaths of four guards, while 231 prisoners perish from injuries or take their own lives. Over the next nine days, authorities manage to recapture 334 of the escapees.
