Plot

Laura Murdock, raised in a struggling working-class home, turns down her childhood sweetheart to live with affluent older man William Brockton. As fate would have it, she soon finds herself captivated by ambitious news reporter Jack Madison. Choosing love over security, Laura leaves William, but as she awaits Jack's return, her finances dwindle. Desperation drives her back to Brockton, who is ready to reveal her predicament to Jack upon his arrival. Laura must confront her choices and the truth about her living situation before it all spirals out of control.
