Plot

Mattie Slaughter, a gifted hockey player from the predominantly Black community of North Preston, dreams of breaking into the NHL, where only thirty out of 600 players share his background. Navigating a world rife with racism, he strives to stay out of trouble while balancing the challenges of school life, including a hustler brother and an unrequited crush on a girl already involved with someone else. As Mattie works tirelessly towards his goal, he faces the harsh realities of both sport and society, determined to change the landscape of hockey.
