Plot

Orphaned shoeshine boy Spanky finds himself aboard a Mississippi riverboat amid the chaos of the Civil War. He forms a bond with Buckwheat, a young runaway slave, but their troubles escalate after crossing paths with a ruthless gambler, prompting them to flee. They seek refuge in a nearby home, where Marshall Valiant recruits them for a vital mission. Inspired by this, Spanky takes the lead in rallying the local children, determined to create their own makeshift army and make a difference in the turbulent times surrounding them.
