The Girl Next Door (1953)

Plot

Stage star Jeannie Laird is thrilled to host her inaugural garden party at her new home, but the festivities are disrupted by smoke from her neighbor's property. Furious, she confronts comic-strip artist Bill Carter, who is focused on his work and raising his son, Joe, alone after his wife's passing. As Jeannie and Bill grow closer, Joe feels sidelined and hurt by the change in their family dynamic. When Bill cancels a planned trip to Canada for Jeannie, Joe takes matters into his own hands by writing to Bill's syndicate, protesting the lack of honesty in his father’s comic strip.
