Plot
Charlie Mason and Rusty Fleming, top reporters at a Chicago tabloid, juggle both their tumultuous romance and a knack for uncovering juicy stories. Their unprofessional antics ultimately drive their city editor to resign, leading to Charlie's unexpected promotion—an ironic choice, as his laid-back style clashes with the demands of leadership. His newfound arrogance alienates colleagues and prompts Rusty to relocate to New York. Realizing his mistake, Charlie resigns and enlists the help of his gangster friend, Smiles Benson, in a desperate bid to win Rusty back before she ties the knot with a pompous author.
