Plot

During World War II in France, Marie Latour struggles to support her two children by performing illegal abortions and renting a room to a familiar sex worker. Her husband, injured and returned from the front lines, finds himself increasingly neglected as Marie immerses herself in her own pursuits. As the underground procedures become a lucrative venture, she also seeks excitement through an affair with a younger man, further complicating her already tumultuous life. Marie’s choices reflect the desperate measures women resort to during times of war and personal strife.
