Mozart's comedic opera, Marriage of Figaro, cleverly navigates the tensions between fading feudalism and the rise of Enlightenment ideals. Herman Prey shines as Figaro, delivering a robust baritone performance while skillfully embodying the character. His foil, Count Almaviva, played by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, is comically thwarted by the clever antics of Figaro and Susanna, portrayed delightfully by Mirella Freni. Kiri Te Kanawa brings elegance to the Countess, and Maria Ewing captures the youthful exuberance of Cherubino. With the Vienna Philharmonic in stellar form and conductor Karl Böhm leading a brisk performance, the production is a captivating experience.
