Plot

Inspired by the notorious American gangster John Dillinger, a ruthless criminal (Robert Hossein) finds himself relentlessly pursued by an inspector (Charles Aznavour), who shares a complicated history as a childhood friend. The chase is rife with intense gunfights and psychological cat-and-mouse games. Tender interludes with his girlfriend Stella (Virna Lisi) offer brief glimpses of humanity amidst the chaos. As Dillinger faces off against the police, innocent lives are tragically lost in the crossfire. Ultimately, his fate hangs in the balance when the mob, seeking justice, closes in with a noose as he exhausts his ammunition.
