Ira Hayes, a young Pima Indian, joins the Marine Corps, facing ridicule and isolation from his peers, except for a supportive Marine named Sorenson. Together, they become part of the iconic image of Marines raising the U.S. flag on Mount Suribachi during the Iwo Jima battle. Tragically, Sorenson's death soon follows. Despite being celebrated as a war hero, Ira struggles to reintegrate into civilian life, leading to a downward spiral marked by the haunting memories of combat and the loss of his friend. His journey explores the heavy toll of war on identity and spirit.
