Plot

Widower Porter Ricks heads off to school to train as a park ranger, leaving his teenage son, Sandy, in the care of a neighbor at their Florida Keys home. When Sandy discovers that their house is slated for demolition to make way for a highway, he learns he and his beloved dolphin, Flipper, will be separated. Determined to stay together, Sandy escapes with Flipper. Meanwhile, vacationing in the area, the Hopewell family faces danger when three convicts hijack their sailboat, leaving them adrift and ultimately leading them to Sandy's hiding spot.
