In 2000, a lifer at a California State Prison boldly petitioned the warden for a specialized yard that would counteract the prevailing violence in prison culture. This request led to the creation of The Progressive Programming Facility, known as The Honor Yard, by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). Unique in the U.S., this groundbreaking yard fosters a peaceful environment, devoid of violence, racial divides, gang influence, and substance abuse, offering inmates a chance to reform and coexist harmoniously.
