Plot
In the slums of Rio, a group of homeless children faces the harsh realities of life as they are forced from their makeshift homes by violent gangsters. They resort to shining shoes, petty theft, and selling kite strings to survive. Frustrated and weary of street life, one boy decides to surrender to the police, hoping to be sent to a reform school as a means of escape. Directed by renowned Swedish filmmaker Arne Sucksdorff, this poignant drama showcased its powerful narrative at the 1965 Cannes Film Festival.
