A Summer in La Goulette (1996)

Plot

In the summer of 1967, La Goulette's sun-soaked shores play host to three spirited seventeen-year-olds: Gigi, a Sicilian Catholic; Meriem, a Tunisian Arab; and Tina, a French Jew. Eager to explore their budding sexuality, the girls defy familial expectations, putting a strain on their fathers—Youssef, Jojo, and Giuseppe—who share a long-standing friendship. As their daughters navigate the complexities of love and desire, the wealthy Arab Hadj sets his sights on marrying Meriem, further complicating the dynamics between the families and challenging societal norms of the time.
