Gamil Ratib, born Gameel Abu-Bakr Raateb in November 1928 in Cairo, Egypt, is a distinguished actor recognized for his compelling performances in both film and television. His acting journey began in the 1940s with an appearance in "Al-forsaan al-thalaatha" (The Three Musketeers), although his family disapproved, leading to the removal of his scenes. Pursuing higher education, Ratib traveled to Paris where he initially studied Law and Economics but ultimately shifted his focus to Theatre, making his stage debut in Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" in 1947.

Throughout his career, Gamil Ratib juggled various jobs to support himself while honing his craft. He gained acclaim as a significant member of the esteemed "Comédie Française." His international breakthrough came when he starred alongside Hollywood icons Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis, and Gina Lollobrigida in the film "Trapeze" in 1956, directed by Carol Reed.

Ratib's television work is equally notable, featuring prominently in series such as "Rehlat al-million" (The Journey to Be a Millionaire) and "Sonbol ba’d al-million" (Sonbol...a Millionaire). He was particularly celebrated for his portrayals of villains and authoritative figures, often sharing the screen with renowned actress Faaten Hamaama in "Hekaaya waraa koll baab" (A Story Behind Every Door).
