Plot
Jobless sportswriter Eddie Willis finds himself entangled with corrupt fight promoter Nick Benko, who hires him to boost the profile of Toro Moreno, an inexperienced Argentinian boxer. Despite Toro's imposing size, he suffers from a weak punch and a fragile chin, making his path to success precarious. Benko exploits Willis’ reputation to orchestrate fixed matches that elevate Toro to the top contender status. Meanwhile, the cruel reigning champion, Buddy Brannen, resents the attention Toro garners and promises to deliver a brutal punishment in the ring. Eddie faces a moral dilemma: reveal the truth to the unsuspecting Toro or remain silent.
