Plot

GHERMANYA explores the complex tapestry of German influences in Ghana, delving into remnants of colonial history and the spread of Christianity. It features a voluntary fire brigade from Buxtehude and the challenges faced by locals in mastering the German language. The narrative weaves through a desire for German governance in the independent Volta Region and highlights cultural exchanges, from Schwarzwälder Schinken to the Goethe Institut. Among the characters is a footballer turned shopkeeper, grappling with visa denials while selling German beer, alongside traders and citizens who cherish Germany for its rich fishing culture.
