Plot
Kaziuk, a headstrong peasant living in a remote village, and his expectant wife lead an untroubled life, far removed from modern society. Their world shifts when two travelers arrive, unleashing a wave of unsettling events. The arrival of a new schoolteacher ignites Kaziuk's hidden desires, leading him to act out in frustration. He commits the grave sin of chopping down a cherished family tree, further alienating himself by using a scythe to harvest rye instead of the traditional sickle. These acts of rebellion provoke the ire of the entire community, threatening his standing and family bonds.
