The Light of Victory (1919)

Plot

U.S. Navy Lieutenant George Blenton finds himself in a drunken stupor at an official gathering, leading to his fiancée, Jane Ravenslee, the captain’s daughter, ending their engagement. When war breaks out, George is given a secret code book to deliver to an English admiral, but in a drunken haze, he misplaces it, allowing German spies to retrieve it. During a private court-martial, he's presented with a pistol as a means of suicide. After another bout of drinking, he fires a shot but survives. Sent to the island of Tafofu to "rot," he resents the U.S. and begins living with Lehua, a half-white woman who attempts to help him overcome his alcoholism.
