Plot

What began as a playful joke between two eccentric friends in Fort Worth, Texas, quickly spirals into a cultural phenomenon. Discontent with the rampant consumerism surrounding them, unemployed duo Douglass St. Clair Smith and Steve Wilcox flip traditional southern values upside down by crafting their own religion. Influenced by the excessive fervor of televangelists, they assume the identities of Reverend Ivan Stang and Dr. Philo Drummond, while introducing J.R. "Bob" Dobbs as their prophet. Through humor and satire, they embark on a mission to challenge societal norms and unveil the absurdity of conformity.
