Set against the backdrop of 1860s New Zealand, Māori warriors battle against British colonial forces to protect their ancestral lands. Te Wheke, initially aligned with the British, finds himself betrayed and driven to seek utu, or revenge. In retaliation, settler Williamson targets Te Wheke after his homestead is attacked. As tensions escalate, Wiremu, a British officer, grows disillusioned, believing that the Māori's resistance is a lost cause. The clash of cultures and personal vendettas unfolds amidst a struggle for sovereignty and justice.
