Plot

In 1834, Charles Stewart (Alan Ladd), the pampered heir of a shipping tycoon, finds himself forcibly enlisted on the Pilgrim, one of his father's vessels. Under the oppressive command of Captain Francis Thompson (Howard Da Silva) and the ruthless first mate Amazeen (William Bendix), Charles endures a grueling journey across treacherous waters. Among the crew is Richard Henry Dana Jr. (Brian Donlevy), who shares in the harsh realities of life at sea. What begins as a journey of privilege quickly transforms into a struggle for survival and redemption.
