Howard Da Silva
Howard Da Silva, born Howard Silverblatt on May 4, 1909, was a multifaceted American actor, director, and musical performer renowned for his contributions to stage, film, television, and radio. Over his prolific career, he graced the New York stage in numerous productions and appeared in more than fifty feature films, as well as over two dozen television series.
Da Silva showcased his versatility in both dramatic and musical roles, most notably as Jud Fry in the original 1943 Broadway production of the iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Oklahoma!. His impressive stage presence also led him to portray the prosecuting attorney in the 1957 theatrical adaptation of Compulsion. His talent did not go unnoticed, as he received a Tony Award nomination in 1960 for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance in Fiorello!, a musical centered on the life of New York City mayor Fiorello LaGuardia.
In 1961, he stepped behind the scenes as a director, helming the production of Purlie Victorious by Ossie Davis. Howard Da Silva's career spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on the performing arts until his passing on February 16, 1986.
