Plot

Muhammad: The Messenger of God showcases the early years of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, directed by Majid Majidi. Released in 2015, this Iranian production boasts the highest budget in the nation’s cinema history and is the first installment of a planned trilogy. Filmed primarily in a massive set in Qom, near Tehran, with some scenes shot in South Africa, the movie features stunning cinematography by Vittorio Storaro and a score by A. R. Rahman. Although it was selected for consideration at the 88th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, it did not make the final shortlist.
