Plot
Set against the backdrop of World War I, the story unfolds amid the chaos of trench warfare. Young soldier Simon (Guillaume Depardieu) sustains bayonet injuries and finds refuge in a Brittany hospital. There, he encounters Marthe (Clotilde Courau), a compassionate schoolteacher residing with the hospital’s chief physician (Bernard Giraudeau). As they bond over shared experiences and hopes, their relationship blossoms into a tender romance.
