Plot

The SS symbol, emblematic of Hitler's terror and the genocide of millions, has a complex origin. In 1929, impoverished graphic artist Walter Heck was tasked with creating the striking, rune-like characters that would become synonymous with the Nazis. Rooted in their belief that they were descendants of the Teutons, the Nazis adopted these runes as a representation of a supposed original Germanic script. However, their Semitic origins raise questions about their appropriation. Following World War II, the Allies outlawed the Nazi Party and its symbols, leading to a fascinating exploration of the SS symbol's history from medieval times to today.
