Plot

The JOHN PAUL JONES, a newly commissioned American destroyer, embarks on a dramatic journey from her construction to a near-fatal mission. Among her crew is Steve Boleslavski, a shipyard welder turned Chief Bosun's Mate, who re-enlists to serve aboard the ship. After a failed sea trial relegates her to mail delivery, the vessel unexpectedly engages a Japanese submarine. Following a torpedo attack that leaves the ship on the brink of sinking, the captain and crew devise a daring plan to salvage their destroyer and defeat the enemy sub.
