Marguerite Chapman

Marguerite Chapman (March 9, 1918 — August 31, 1999) was a prominent American actress whose career spanned several decades. Hailing from Chatham, New York, Chapman began her journey in the entertainment industry as a telephone switchboard operator before her striking looks led her to a modeling career with the renowned John Robert Powers Agency in New York City. This exposure eventually opened doors to Hollywood, where she was signed by 20th Century Fox.

Chapman made her film debut in 1940 and spent her early years in minor film roles. However, she gained notable recognition in 1942 when she starred as the lead in the adventure serial *Spy Smasher*, produced by Republic Pictures, which is celebrated as one of the finest serials of its time. Following this success, she appeared alongside legendary actors such as Edward G. Robinson and George Sanders. During World War II, she actively supported the war effort by entertaining troops and participating in war bond drives at the Hollywood Canteen.

In the 1950s, Chapman transitioned to television, featuring in guest roles on popular series like *Rawhide*, *Perry Mason*, and *Four Star Playhouse*, while also appearing in Marilyn Monroe's classic film *The Seven Year Itch*. Although she was offered the role of "Old Rose" in the 1997 blockbuster *Titanic*, health issues prevented her from taking it.

In recognition of her contributions to the film industry, Marguerite Chapman received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She passed away in 1999 at the age of 81 and was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
