In 1943, the childless Čížek couple makes a life-altering decision to shelter Jewish refugee David Wiener, the son of Čížek's former boss, in a hidden pantry within their home. Aware of the grave risks to their safety and that of their neighbors, Čížek grapples with the fear that accompanies his act of compassion.
