Plot

After the Civil War, a Union soldier finds freedom from prison and embarks on a journey to Missouri with a fellow inmate. Tragically, his companion is executed for horse theft. Undeterred, California decides to deliver the deceased friend's possessions to his family’s ranch, where he unexpectedly falls for his companion's sister. However, the shadows of the past resurface, bringing with them haunting memories of the war that challenge his newfound happiness and force him to confront his inner demons.
