Plot

Set against the backdrop of the summer of 1939, Zosia, a young Polish girl, finds herself torn between her love for Ukrainian Petro and her father's ambition for her to marry the affluent widower, Skiba. Shortly after their wedding, Skiba is called to serve in the Polish army, leaving Zosia isolated. As she navigates her newfound solitude, societal tensions escalate among the Jews, Poles, and Ukrainians in her community, challenging her beliefs and loyalties amid the looming threat of war with Germany. Love and conflict intertwine as Zosia grapples with her fate.
