Plot
In "Stripes," down-and-out taxi driver John Winger finds himself adrift after losing his job and girlfriend. Seeking a new path, he joins the U.S. Army alongside his best friend, Russell Ziskey. Despite his lackluster skills in basic training, Winger becomes the unintentional leader of a quirky group of misfits. As their antics escalate, Winger's reckless behavior puts them in jeopardy, culminating in a chaotic incident where he unwittingly takes control of a military assault vehicle, leading to a potential international crisis.
