In 1996, Cuban bandleader Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, British producer Nick Gold, and American guitarist Ry Cooder aimed to create a unique collaboration with Malian musicians in Havana. When visa issues derailed those plans, they instead formed the Buena Vista Social Club, reviving a lost generation of son cubano artists. Now, twenty years later, the film revisits these iconic musicians as they reflect on their remarkable journeys, from modest beginnings to newfound fame, set against Cuba's tumultuous backdrop. Filled with rare concert and rehearsal footage, it joyfully illustrates music's ability to unite people across generations and cultures.
