Plot

Set in Montreal during Rosh Hashanah in 1948, Chaim, a disillusioned Yiddish writer, confronts his religious beliefs when asked to complete a minyan. While reflecting in a park, he unexpectedly encounters Hersh, a rabbi whose faith has deepened after surviving Auschwitz. Their reunion reignites old tensions, as they passionately debate their contrasting paths—Hersh’s unwavering faith and Chaim’s loss of belief. As the two friends reminisce about their shared past, they grapple with their differing convictions, the weight of their old quarrel, and the essence of their enduring friendship.
