When elevators in a New York City high-rise start to malfunction dangerously, mechanic Mark Newman and journalist Jennifer Evans each embark on their own investigations. Newman faces pushback from his company's management, which produced the faulty elevators, as a series of horrifying accidents lead to multiple fatalities. As the police delve into the chaos, they initially suspect a terrorist plot.
