A Month by the Lake (1995)

Plot

Miss Bentley has spent the last 16 years enjoying April at a picturesque villa by Lake Como, but 1937 brings unexpected changes. Following her father's recent death, the elegant atmosphere is disrupted by the arrival of loud American tourists. When Major Wilshaw proposes a cocktail meeting, Miss Bentley unintentionally skips out on their rendezvous to assist a new Italian nanny. Meanwhile, Miss Beaumont, a tall American school dropout, flirts with the major, rekindling his long-dormant passions. As Miss Bentley discovers new depths to the major, her feelings begin to shift in unexpected ways.
