Plot

Nicholas Rood, a corrupt mine owner, discovers a menacing Black Doll on his desk, signaling that retribution is imminent for his partner's murder. As he discusses the situation with his daughter Marian, he is suddenly stabbed. Distraught, Marian calls her fiancé, private detective Nick Halstead. Delving into the case, Nick uncovers six potential suspects, including Rood's sister Mrs. Laura Leland, her son Rex, and Rood's associates Mallison and Walling, along with a servant named Esteban and Dr. Giddings. Despite the confusion created by Sheriff Renick and his deputy, Nick eventually identifies the true culprit.
