Nan Grey
Nan Grey, born Eschal Loleet Grey Miller in Houston, Texas, made a significant mark in the entertainment industry during the 1930s and 1940s. Her journey into Hollywood began in 1934 when she accompanied her mother on a vacation and was encouraged by a friend to audition for a screen test, which led to her first film role. Grey honed her craft at the Universal Studios school designed for young actors under contract.
Her cinematic debut occurred the same year in Warner Brothers’ *Firebird*, and she soon starred alongside John Wayne in the 1936 adventure film *Sea Spoilers*. Grey became a familiar face in the horror genre, featuring in Universal's classic *Dracula's Daughter* (1936) and *The Invisible Man Returns* (1940). Moreover, she showcased her talent in the beloved musical comedy *Three Smart Girls* (1936) and its sequel, *Three Smart Girls Grow Up* (1939).
In addition to her film career, Grey lent her voice to the character Kathy Marshall in the NBC radio soap opera *Those We Love*, which aired from 1938 to 1945. She also appeared in *The Lux Radio Theatre* alongside notable stars such as Bing Crosby and Joan Blondell in the episode "She Loves Me Not," which aired on November 8, 1937. Nan Grey's contributions to film and radio have left a lasting legacy in the entertainment world.
