Episode Overview

As they begin their residency, Meredith Grey, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, and Alex Karev take on the responsibility of mentoring new interns. Among them is George, who is repeating his internship after not passing his exams, and Lexie Grey, Meredith's half-sister. The season kicks off with the introduction of two more interns. The team faces a chaotic day when a three-car crash results in an influx of casualties at Seattle Grace. Meanwhile, some doctors struggle to manage the stress of their inexperienced interns. A young boy arrives at the hospital, desperately seeking help for his injured deer.
