After the First 48 (2008)
S01E13 The Good Book
Episode Overview
In November 2006, detectives in Dallas launched an investigation into the gruesome murder of a 29-year-old mother of four, whose body was discovered charred beyond recognition inside her car near an isolated warehouse. As the inquiry progressed, they uncovered that her ex-boyfriend and the father of her infant son had been obsessively stalking her in the months leading up to her death. With the help of two homeless witnesses and a vital piece of evidence, authorities charged James Bartley with capital murder. The Dallas District Attorney’s office worked diligently to prepare the case, closely monitoring their key witnesses for years as they awaited trial. When Bartley’s trial commenced in 2009, the prosecution feared that the jury might doubt the credibility of the two homeless witnesses and find the evidence inadequate to convict him beyond a reasonable doubt.
