Michael Palin: Around the World in 80 Days (1989)
S01E04 A Close Shave
Episode Overview
In Mumbai, Palin discovers that he is a week behind Phileas Fogg's journey. He manages to secure a train to Chennai in the south. While in Mumbai, he meets an astrologer who, after providing a birth chart for a friend's child, assures him he'll finish his trip on schedule. However, complications arise when he seeks a boat to Singapore. Ultimately, a "remarkable Anglo-German-Indo-Yugoslav agreement" is struck, allowing only Palin and his cameraman, Nigel, to board the vessel. This means Palin must quickly learn sound testing to capture footage on the ship. One notable train stop is Poona, where he reminisces about his father's rowing victories from the 1920s.
