Michael Palin: Around the World in 80 Days (1989)

Episode Overview

While in Shanghai, he acquires some herbal remedies to aid his journey ahead. He enjoys a night out with Basil, soaking up the sounds of a lively Chinese jazz band. The following day, after bidding farewell to Basil, he boards a ferry to Japan and experiences the renowned shinkansen train. There, he reconnects with fellow Brit David Powers, who introduces him to a sushi bar, followed by a fun-filled karaoke night where they perform a duet of "You Are My Sunshine." After a night in a capsule hotel, he sets sail across the Pacific Ocean for eleven days, including a crossing of the International Date Line.
