Episode Overview

Maria Hale's health takes a turn for the worse, prompting her daughter Margaret to reach out to her brother Frederick, who had been forced to flee England due to an unjust court ruling. Meanwhile, the mill workers in Milton initiate a strike. To meet his production deadlines, Thornton employs Irish laborers, inciting the fury of the striking workers. In a bid to intimidate Thornton, they harm Margaret. Moved by her bravery in trying to protect him, Thornton resolves to propose to Margaret.
