Episode Overview

After being deeply wounded by the rejection of his marriage proposal, the relationship between Thornton and Margaret grows increasingly strained. Just then, Frederick returns home to see his ailing mother, and Thornton mistakenly assumes he is Margaret's romantic interest. As Margaret reflects on her earlier harsh judgment of Thornton, she begins to realize she may have been wrong, yet she sadly notices his changing perception of her. Not long after her mother's passing, Margaret also faces the loss of her friend Bessy.
