Episode Overview

Upon returning to work, Bayliss finds that management has revamped the squad room, hoping to help everyone move on from the tragic events of last May. Both Gharty and Ballard are back, with Ballard pondering whether to invite Falsone to the Lodge party. New detective Rene Sheppard encourages her to take a chance. Meanwhile, Lewis seizes the moment and invites Sheppard, revealing his split from Barbara. Falsone contemplates asking Sheppard as well. Bayliss’s first case with Munch involves the dismembered remains of Angelo Faltislo, linked to Gee's cousin, Mario Giardello. Stivers and Falsone investigate another murder of Mario's friend, Leo Grimaldi. When Gee visits Mario, he discovers his cousin's body in the same horrific state. Additionally, Gee's estranged son, Mike Giardello, an FBI agent from Arizona, returns for the funeral.
