As Cromwell's brutal regime takes hold through violent military intimidation, its illegitimacy becomes clear to many, including Honest John Lilburn. He chooses to join the opposition but manages to secure his freedom at trial, cleverly revealing the betrayal of the biased judges. Meanwhile, Edward Sexby takes on a colonel’s role to protect England’s interests in the Irish campaign, remaining steadfast even as Cromwell betrays their agreement with the mutineers, executing their leaders.
