In Charlotte, rookie Detective Norma McKee faces her first case involving a double homicide: a young couple shot while sitting in their car by someone in the backseat. Among the evidence, detectives discover a baseball cap that could hold crucial DNA from the suspect. Meanwhile, in Miami, seasoned detective Emiliano Tamayo tackles two grim cases within 48 hours. The first involves a family of three who are discovered dead in their home after a report of a foul odor. Later that night, he investigates the murder of a young man over a petty fifty-dollar bet. Drawing on his extensive experience, Tamayo strives to crack both cases amidst the rising death toll.
