Episode Overview
Carol's father returns from Florida just in time for his birthday celebration, completely unaware of her engagement. When she finally reveals the news, he's hurt that she's marrying a stranger to him. At the party, he gives both Carol and her fiancé, Dennis, the silent treatment and dismisses her attempts to apologize. When Carol visits his home to talk, she is taken aback to learn that he remarried a year ago without telling her. Furious at first, her anger shifts when she suspects he might be unwell. He denies it, but during a heartfelt visit, they confront their fears and vulnerabilities since her mother's passing. He admits his fear and asks her to join him at a doctor’s appointment, where they receive encouraging news. Meanwhile, Warren is outraged by the inequities of the SAT system and launches a solo protest called "Pencils Down!" Despite several unsuccessful attempts to gain support for his cause, he remains determined.
