In July, the team faces their busiest period on the farm as they gear up for the cherry harvest, enlisting the help of their Dartmoor pony, Laddy, and indulging in a cherry feast to celebrate their efforts. Historian Ruth Goodman experiments with salmon netting, while archaeologists Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn take urgent steps to protect their potato crop from a blight. Seeking low-cost labor, Alex visits an Edwardian classroom, complete with strict discipline, to recruit children. Meanwhile, Ruth learns to craft a bathing suit from wool, and the team enjoys a rare day off as they embark on a church outing to the seaside.
