Episode Overview

In 1827 Edinburgh, Scotland, John McGregor struggles to care for his alcoholic wife, Aggie. Employed by Dr. Knox, he regularly hauls heavy boxes of tanbark to the medical academy. However, John discovers that these boxes conceal the bodies of victims taken by the notorious bodysnatchers, Burke and Hare. In a desperate bid to rid himself of Aggie, he gets her drunk and leaves her on the doorstep of the body snatchers. While his plan succeeds, guilt quickly overwhelms him. Tragically, John soon finds himself targeted by Burke and Hare, becoming their next victim.
